Figma Make Kit publish/update kit button disabled

I’ve been trying to use Figma Make to create a Make Kit for my design community, but this has revealed a real pain to do.

For days I’ve been burning my AI tokens trying to replicate the components from my library (for some reason, there should be a better, cleaner, and more token-efficient way to do it, but well, that’s for another day).

Now, I reached a point where I was ready to publish a few components I just created (around 10), but to my surprise, the Publish/Update Kit button was disabled

I tried multiple things, both myself and using the AI chat, but nothing seemed to help. Today I attempted to recreate it—now even by hand, trying to create files and folders myself, recreating the React code from the previous Make Kit, and it was working… Until the button got disabled again!

I can’t seem to understand why this happens, as there are no errors or any issues, but Figma UI simply starts behaving weird.

Now, if I duplicate the file, the button is working again, but this is stupid because I want to create and update a single file so designers can use it, not create a new one every time I need to update it.

Please help, or else I just quit having a nice Make Kit.

Hi, @Hugo_Pardal_Figueira.

Thanks for posting about this. Sounds like this was pretty frustrating for you, and I definitely don’t want you have unable to create a nice kit or using up credits just on resolving this. I checked with our team and I’m pretty sure this may be tied to an issue that was just fixed today. Can you refresh your browser tab/update the desktop app, then check and see if the option is available again? Let me know if that’s not the case and we’ll troubleshoot this together from there.

One addition question in the meantime, though - how was the UI behaving that you thought was weird?

Hello @adamsmasher

Thanks for the update, I also got a reply from Support saying this issue should now be resolved (which I can confirm).

It's just a bit annoying that I spent so many tokens trying to “fix it” (because I thought it was an issue with my code), and now I have so few to do as much as I was planning in the first place. But we live and learn. EDIT: Got the tokens back that I spent trying to fix it, thanks Figma Support!

The weird part of the Figma Make code editor UI now is that I see some “error/alert” icons next to some files/folders, and I don’t see any issue (either in the chat or via any tooltip or any other form of information). Also, these folders with the icon I can’t expand/collapse or even delete(?!?!).

Additionally, when I create a new file/folder and type a name for it, at first it won’t let me type more than one letter. I need to click outside and then rename it a second time.

I can provide more info or details if you need.

As a last request, it would be very nice to be able to upload more files than one at a time, as Figma Make’s code editor is quite annoying sometimes, and people could use a separate editor of choice and then upload their files to it (although I think this is a limitation you want to enforce).

Thanks once again!

Totally understandable, @Hugo_Pardal_Figueira! Glad that we were able to help out with your tokens.

Could you get a screenshot of the list of files showing the error/alert icons? I’m not sure what you are seeing but I’d like to show that to the team for guidance. Regarding what you saw with the file and folder name - I tested and could replicate that (so weird!). Good news, though - our team is already aware and working on a fix for that.

And finally, regarding uploading multiple files to Figma Make code editor - I was able to upload more than one file when I tested in the Desktop app. I clicked the upload button, then in the file upload dialog window I shift selected more than one file and uploaded. Did that not work for you?
