Figma Make keeps breaking images

Is there some special trick to get Make to display images? I’ve tried importing image files, copying and pasting as png from Figma Design, pasting frames from Design…it will work for 1 or 2 prompts, and then I’ll get a broken image.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for flagging this!

I’d love to gather a bit more context so I can share this with the team and help investigate further. Could you please let me know:

  • What exactly happens when you see a “broken image”? If possible, could you share a screenshot?

  • What kind of prompts are you using when this occurs? Are they short, long, or very detailed?

  • And if you’re comfortable, could you share a file link where this is happening? That would really help us take a closer look.

Thank you for your help!

Hey Gayani,

I have been having this issue for a while now. Before I had tiles with images and it was easy to replace them.

Now when I try to update an image it either
1. Update image A, throw up an error.
2. Update image A it successfully, upon updating image B, Image A would break requiring it to be reverted back to the original.

Prompting it Figma Make gives me this reasoning
---
When you attach images in the chat, they generate temporary hashes, but those images aren't actually uploaded to the Figma Make asset system. The `figma:asset/` URLs only work for images that were part of the original Figma design import.’

The issue isn't specifically because we're in a browser - it's because the `figma:asset/` URLs only work for images that were part of the original Figma design import. When you attach new images in chat, they generate temporary hashes but aren't actually uploaded to the Figma Make asset system. To use new images in the future, we would need to either:

  1. Re-import a Figma design that includes the new images
  2. Use the `unsplash_tool` to fetch images from Unsplash
  3. Work with the original imported images (which is what we're doing now)

Hey @Wawa, thank you for sharing all these details! Have you had a chance to try the workaround Figma Make suggested, and did it help resolve the issue at all?

Hey Guyani_S,

It didn’t help unfortunately but I did find work around. I gave it a group with all the images and told it to store them by default.

I would just reference those defaults if I wanted to update the image. It let me both add and update those images without breaking anything.

Hey @Wawa, thanks you for the update!

I’ve flagged this internally with the team so they can take a closer look. In the meantime, could you please share a file link with me? That would really help our team investigate further. If you’d prefer not to share it publicly, you can DM it to me directly and invite support-share@figma.com with “can edit” permissions. (Users with @figma.com emails don’t count toward your billing.)

I’ll make sure to keep you updated as soon as I hear back from the team. Thanks again for your patience in the meantime!
