Question

Figma Make file has to be reopened to work

I’ve been working on a rather simple Figma Make project, but each time I try to update the project, the preview pane freezes and doesn’t play the prototype. I have to close the file and reopen it every time I make an update. The prototype seems to be updating (or so it seems) but it doesnt work unless I reopen the file.

Why would this be happening? Am I doing something wrong?

Hey @Nikhil Devlekar — welcome to Figma Forum, and thanks for surfacing this behavior. The preview pane shouldn’t freeze or require reopening the file, so I’d like to help narrow down what’s going on.

A few quick checks that will help us pinpoint the issue:

  1. Does this happen across all your Make files, or only in this one project?
  2. Do you have any experimental models toggled on in your file settings?
  3. Are you seeing any error messages or visual indicators when the preview stops responding? If so, this troubleshooting guide is a good reference point to rule out a few common causes: Troubleshoot in Figma Make.
  4. When you have a moment, please also give these performance best practices a look: 8 essential tips for using Figma Make, and let me know if anything changes after trying them.
  5. May I ask what types of prompts you’ve entered and at what number you started noticing this issue?

Since this behavior shouldn’t be occurring, I’ve also opened a ticket on your behalf so our Technical Quality team can take a closer look at the specific file. Please check your inbox for a message from me with your case number (1621351) and next steps.

Thanks for sticking with this — we’ll get it sorted.
