Figma Layouts Keep Randomly Breaking

Similar issues have been happening for a long time. Basically I start to randomly see things like a frame that was set to hug width suddenly become wider, or the content inside a layer suddenly shift.

Sometimes it goes back to normal when I click into the layer. Sometimes clicking into it doesn’t help. Sometimes undo/redo fixes it, and sometimes even that doesn’t work. And I need to manually change it back.

I never reported it before because I couldn’t figure out how to reliably reproduce the bug. But today I saw something even weirder, so I recorded a video. link here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i2jXOSnPS3bkQPkFjjswPSZFPGhGpcov/view?usp=sharing

My guess is this might be a regression from lots of recent feature releases. But honestly, when this keeps happening, it makes Figma feel less and less trustworthy. I really hope the team can look into it and fix them soon.

I have the same issue since last week, it’s driving me nuts, and its embarrassing starting a presentation to product owners and getting broken layouts in clickdummys that were fine 5 minutes before

Hey @RUI ZHAO 👋 Thanks for the video. The jiggling on bulk select is unexpected, and the intermittent nature is exactly why issues like this are hard to surface. I've gone ahead and opened a ticket on your behalf so our team can dig in directly. (ID 1930227) You'll get an email from Support shortly with a few questions to help them investigate — keep an eye on your email.

Appreciate you flagging the trust point too. I'll make sure it gets noted alongside the report. Best — Jaycee

Also experiencing this same issue. Figma has been really feeling unstable. My layouts keep getting broken even if I fix it. What I design does not match what it renders on the browser in prototype mode.

Some components are suddenly too wide or too narrow. No matter how much I fix the main component, all its instances look broken. It's getting really frustrating to design in Figma. It's becoming quite unreliable for presentations.

Sorry to hear that, @Patricia_Ibasco - I can definitely understand why that’s frustrating for you and the others in this thread.

Is it only when presenting prototypes that the designs are different, or is it also when editing the designs? Also, are the components where you see this nested instances that swap to another instance? I may want to make a ticket with our Technical Quality team so they can take a look, but I want to get a bit more info from you first. Thank you!

same problem with editing frames – then clicking on the weird element helps but with over 100 pages and multiple frames there, sorry, I don’t have time for that 😑

and for over a month I see problem with weird rendering prototypes too – most cases are positioning and sizing mentioned already in this thread

additional one that appeared now is the merging – during review everything looks great, after merge some layers randomly moves on the screen and there is no pattern (two similar layouts next to each other may have different problems after merge)

Hi, @natalia.bienias. Sorry to hear you’ve also been having trouble, especially for over a month. Thank you for the additional detail about merging.

If you make a copy of the file, do all of the layers display correctly in the copy? Also, have you tried using Regenerate all instances? You can find that in the actions menu in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas (and also by select Actions… after right-clicking on the canvas). Search for it in the search field in the menu and you’ll see the option.
