This also keeps happening to me in the browser - it’s really disruptive.

Hey @Helen Chapman (Torchbox) - apologies for the trouble. I’d also be also be frustrated if this kept disrupting my work. I saw your response in older topic here, and moved it into it’s own individual/new one.

Can you provide me some additional info for me?

  • Is it just the web browser? Or do you also see this in the desktop app as well?
  • Is it a specific file that keeps refreshing, or is it all/any of them? Is it not in a file, but the general Figma landing page?
  • What browser (and version number) are you current using?
  • Do you have any extensions installed in your browser?
  • Have you tried clearing the app cache/cookies for Figma specifically?

Thank you for your patience! Hope to get you a solution soon.

I don’t use the desktop app, but this keeps happening all the time in the browser.

I think you must have started putting Figma “to sleep” when tabs are sitting in the background or something? Whenever I switch back to a Figma tab, it almost always reloads, causing me to lose my position in some very large documents. It’s incredibly frustrating.

I use Brave. At first, I thought this had something to do with Brave putting tabs to sleep, so I added Figma to the “never sleep” list - this didn’t help, so I disabled tab sleep entirely, but that didn’t help either.

Now I think what I’m seeing is Figma’s loader deciding to reload the document within Figma - I don’t think this the browser sleeping or reloading the page at all? What I see when switching to a Figma tab is the grayed-out Figma document and Figma’s loader, immediately - it doesn’t look like a browser reload, it looks like Figma is doing this, for some reason?

Could it be you’re shutting down the connection, to try to save on open websockets or something?

That would be my best guess.

If that’s what you’re doing, you could surely find a way to do that much more seamlessly?

I mean, if you close the connection to a document that’s currently opened by someone else, maybe this is your only way to recover from falling behind on document updates…?

But you should not be doing that.

And if you have to do that, you need to find a way to resynchronize the document more seamlessly when Figma comes out of sleep. I wouldn’t personally mind if I have to see a spinner, although I would sympathize with people who would find even that to be disruptive - but reloading the whole document and losing my location in the document is definitely not acceptable. 🤔

It is definitely 100% Figma “suspending” itself somehow, because I’ve noticed, I can sometimes manage to zoom or scroll in Figma for a moment, before it “realizes” or “decides” it needs to reload - and when it does, it’s the Figma loader displaying over the open Figma document.

So this is 100% not a browser thing - the app has this behavior, for some reason.

This has been happening to me too, both in Chrome and in the macOS Figma desktop app. I’m working on a complex project and anytime I go from coding back to my Figma browser tab or the Figma app to check designs, it reloads, zooms out from what I was looking at, and blocks my workflow for ~20 seconds or so.

It’s so frustrating that I’ve stopped working off of Figma entirely and just take screenshots of a design in Figma and then work off of that. The product is basically unusable for me.

  • Is it just the web browser? Or do you also see this in the desktop app as well?
    • Both
  • Is it a specific file that keeps refreshing, or is it all/any of them? Is it not in a file, but the general Figma landing page?
    • Any file
  • What browser (and version number) are you current using?
    • Chrome: 140.0.7339.133
    • Figma: 125.7.5
  • Do you have any extensions installed in your browser?
    • Nothing that’d cause this
  • Have you tried clearing the app cache/cookies for Figma specifically?
    • In the app: it happens in a fresh install of the app
    • In the browser: it happens with a cleared browser cache

Thanks, both.

Our technical quality team has been tracking performance issues similar to the ones you’re both describing. If possible, could I have you do the following?

  • Share edit access to any file you have issues with support-share@figma.com. This is our official Figma support account, and only select support and engineering members will be able to access them to try and replicate any problems. You will also not be charge for this.
    • We understand NDA’s may not allow for file sharing, so you can skip this part if that’s the case.
    • A screen recording would also be helpful if it can be provided!
  • File a help ticket here, and include a direct URL to the file[s] you’ve shared access to (or a copy of the screen recording).

Once you’ve done that, please let me know and I will escalate your tickets for expedited help.

EDIT: I see that there are others experiencing the same type of issue. I’m highlighting this response to bring some attention to the ticket form. It would be helpful to have you submit this, as it goes straight to our technical quality team. I also added some additional instructions to clarify form submission steps.

Joakim Carlgren

We, multiple people in our org, are also seeing this exact issue, and it is obviously extremely frustrating losing context like this, constantly, several times a day. We see this both in the desktop app and the browser.

Same here. It is really annoying. I use both Desktop App and browser version. Windows 11, Figma ver. 125.8.8

@ksn I can’t share the document (for legal reasons) but I did manage to get a screen recording of the issue happening - if that’s any use to you, I can send it privately.

@Rasmus Schultz that works fine! We understand that NDA’s may not allow for file sharing.

It would actually be better if you did fill out the form I listed above, and include the screen recording with it. I can then expedite the ticket once it’s made: figma.bot/submitreport

Let me know when that’s done!

That's the main reason people I know have hated Figma in the last two years, it's funny to read this, I hope you will fix this someday

ty @Rasmus Schultz! I see a member of our Technical Quality team sent a message your way. Let me know if you didn’t receive it.

@ksn I haven’t had the problem today! looks like you fixed it :-)

@ksn nope, today it’s happening again… I think maybe it only happens while other people have the same document open? not sure.

@ksn okay, so to be clear, it’s now only doing the “loading” thing, but it no longer loses my location in the document. the delay here is still kind of annoying, but at least it’s usable now...

Hey, I’m having the same issue for a few months now (desktop app) and I still don’t know why it’s happening.

Figma keeps reloading constantly. I’m currently in the UI Research phase for 3 projects, and every file I work on has the same problem — Figma reloads all the time whenever I zoom in/out or copy and paste images between sections.

I’ve tried several things like resetting Figma and reducing the image sizes, change to figma beta, create new files and repaste everything in the new file, but the issue continues. I really need a fix for this bug.

Figma used to be a very reliable app before all these recent changes in the company. The main focus should still be Figma Design — it’s the core product!

My guess is that it could be a bug related to some specific image format — maybe something generated by the Windows screenshot shortcut app. I’m not sure, but something is definitely happening. I know images can be heavy, but I’ve worked with huge files full of high-res assets before and this never happened. It was slow sometimes, yes, but it never constantly reloaded like this.

Now it’s actually harder to work than before, and it shouldn’t be like that. Please help, I really can’t take this anymore — it’s extremely frustrating.

If needed, I can share the file. It’s still early in the process, so it won’t affect any NDA.

Hey @ksn

Can you help me with this? I can share the file — actually all 3 files — if needed, since they’re all in the same stage and all of them show the same issue. Because of this constant reloading bug, it’s getting really hard for me to make progress on these projects.

It would be really helpful to get some support here, since this seems to be a Figma bug of some kind.

thanks in advance for the assist

This keeps happening to me too on the desktop app.  It’s so frustrating, especially when it takes a while to reload.  Moreover, it sometimes takes you to a different area after reloading which disorients you.

Lauri_Incrosnatu

I have the same both on my PC and Mac apps and browser, it refreshes every time I move between the main view sections (drafts, projects and starred projects etc). I wonder is it related to our profiles as my coworker does not have the same?
