Figma Design became very slow

I am working with Figma for about 3 years and it is a wonderful software. Speed used to be awesome in the beginning. It changed after a while and now it is really a pain to open files, select frames and resize areas. It starts blocking my work. You read always “Empty the cache...” I did but no change. Please dear Figma team realize that there is a problem that needs your attention.

Hey @NathanaelSSmith! I hear you, it sounds really frustrating to keep running into lag even after trying the suggested steps.

At this stage, the best next step is to connect directly with our technical quality team so they can dig into what’s happening with your specific setup. You can reach them by filling out this form

To speed things up, please also include the details I mentioned in my earlier reply, these information will give the team a clearer picture and help them investigate more effectively.

I know it can feel repetitive to share details again, but getting the technical team involved is really the most effective way to get to the bottom of this.

Thank you for taking the time to flag this!

I’ve been having the same issue with performance for about two months. All other apps I use are not affected, only Figma. It’s very laggy when doing anything—typing, moving elements, double-clicking layers, moving around the canvas, switching between pages or files, updating libraries—basically all core functionality lags pretty significantly and it’s extremely frustrating. It’s slowing my production and lags during stakeholder presentations which is causing issues with my clients.

  • I use the desktop app exclusively on a Macbook Pro 14”, 2021 with an Apple M1 Pro chip, running macOS Monterey version 12.7.6

  • This happens in all of my Figma files

  • It happens at least two-four times a day, and sometimes resolves if I restart the app, but I’m restarting multiple times a day which also takes time

Hey @Chrissy Pipetti, thank you for taking the time to share detailed info!

I’ve gone ahead and created a support ticket for you so we can dig into this more closely. Your ticket number is #1629496, and I’ve already passed along the details you shared so the team has full context. Someone from our team will reach out as soon as possible to continue troubleshooting with you.

When you get a moment, please also download and share your Figma desktop app debug logs with the team. Those logs often give the team insight into what’s causing performance issues.

Thank you for your help!

Hello @Gayani_S I’m also experiencing these issues. I started noticing around Thursday or Friday, although I suspected they started when I updated Figma.

  1.  Figma Desktop App 125.10.8
  2. It happens on all files, worsened on large files such as Design Systems with multiple pages and interdependencies between components (before last week, the file had some slowness, but it was much faster than the update)
  3. Apple M1 Pro 16-inch, 16GB running Sequoia 15.5

Can I roll back the last update? How can I revert the last update to the previous stable version?

Hey @Thyago Furtado, thank you for flagging this!

Regarding your question: it's unfortunately not possible to roll back the Desktop App to a previous version. I’ve checked your support ticket (#1632472), and I can confirm that our team has already escalated this to engineering. They did identify a recent change around the time you noticed the slowdown that could impact selecting frames, copying/pasting, deleting objects, and similar actions.

The good news is that they’ve just released a fix that should address the issue. Could you please fully refresh Figma and let us know if you see any improvement?

If you continue to run into issues, please follow up on the ticket and the team will be able to help!

Figma Team,

I’ve been using Figma since its early launch days, and it has consistently been one of the fastest, most reliable tools in my workflow — truly best in class.

Recently, however, performance has become significantly slower, borderline unusable. It has reached a point where both small and large scale projects are difficult to work on, and it is starting to impact production timelines.

This is affecting teams of all sizes, from startups to publicly listed companies. Performance at this level cannot be sustained in professional environments where speed and stability are critical.

I’m not sure what changed in the latest update, but something clearly has. Standard file optimisation practices are not resolving the issue, and many of us who rely on Figma daily are already diligent about keeping files clean and efficient. The lag appears consistent across both browser and desktop versions.

For reference, I am using Desktop App latest version 126.1.2 on a MacBook M4 Pro. The issue occurs in both the desktop app and the web app, primarily using Google Chrome, even with cache cleared regularly.

Sharing this respectfully but urgently.
