For a long time, the figma pen has been lagging, but that’s fine because we’ve been patiently waiting for them to fix it and could still make do. But recently, I don’t know if it’s because of the updates, but the pen function has been horrible when I use my graphics tablet. Not only does it lag (as it has always done), but it is faint and you have to press down real hard for it to work. I can’t write using my laptop touch pad but it works better with the touch pad. Please Figma team, help me out because using Figma is now becoming next to impossible for a classroom setting.
Hi
To investigate I need the following details from you:
-
Are you using the FigJam app on your IPad?
-
What model iPad are you working with, and what version of iPadOS is it running?
-
When did you start noticing the pen behaviour getting worse? Was it after a recent update?
-
Does this issue happen in all FigJam files or just specific ones?
-
Have you already tried restarting the app or reinstalling it to see if that helps at all?
Once I have this info, I’ll pass it along internally to the teams to check what might cause this.
Thanks for your patience and for your help!

Hello. I'm joining the discussion. I'm experiencing similar difficulties with the pen tool. I've been using the browser version and the desktop version of Figma. I'm using a Wacom Intuos tablet. I've restarted Figma and my computer. The changes in the pen's functionality have become critical this week. I really hope that these bugs will be fixed.

I am experiencing the same I use this to work collaboratively with students. At the moment neither of us can write using a graphic pen. It is only working for students use Ipad AND APPLE PEN. I am a paying user and you have just taken my direct debit If this continues I will be requiring a full refund.

Are you using the FigJam app on your IPad? - No, but I do have students using it on Samsung tablet and all other types of devices
-
What model iPad are you working with, and what version of iPadOS is it running? - I’m using an hp, windows 11 if that’s of any help
-
When did you start noticing the pen behaviour getting worse? Was it after a recent update? - a few days ago. i’m sure it has to do with the update.
-
Does this issue happen in all FigJam files or just specific ones? - all of them
-
Have you already tried restarting the app or reinstalling it to see if that helps at all? - i haven’t downloaded it. I use the web version
Would really appreciate if you guys could make the update optional. For example, people should be able to choose between ‘drawing mode’ and ‘normal mode’ for the pen.
I have the same problem when I use Figjam in the web browser.

The same problem here…
Infact what I observed more mouse works fine as previous… that is previously both mouse and pen was working same style… now pen works differently not like mouse… how can we change the style of the pen to work as previously…
Hey everyone, thank you all for your patience — and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
I’ve shared this thread with our team and they’re currently looking into the issue. While I can’t share a specific timeframe just yet, please know we’re actively investigating. I’ll make sure to post any updates here as soon as I have them.
In the meantime, to help us narrow things down, could you please confirm if the issue is happening when:
-
Using a pen
-
On a non-iPad device
-
While using FigJam in the browser
Thank you for your help!
Hi
And to confirm, these issues are (or were since the pen seems to be working now) happening when
-
Using a pen (I’m using huion)
-
On a non-iPad device
-
While using FigJam in the browser
Thanks for following up.
Thanks so much for the update, and I’m really glad to hear the pen is working again! We did identify and mitigated the issue. Appreciate you hanging in there and confirming the details — it really helps. If anything comes up again, don’t hesitate to reach out!

It seems the “variable width strokes” feature that was introduced on June 26th was removed last week from FigJam.
I think this feature is what was causing the issue for users, specifically on Windows (I also had the issue on my Windows PC). This would explain why the feature was recently rolled back.
However, on MacOS, it was working fine, but the feature was also removed anyway. I’m bummed out since I really liked that feature — It gave me much more control over the width of the pen strokes in FigJam and made handwriting look more natural. Please let me know if there is a way I can re-enable it or if you plan to add it back to MacOS, since it is a Windows-specific issue.
Thank you for your help
