Feature Request: Page-Level Visibility Permissions

Hi Figma Team and Community,

We would like to suggest a page-level visibility permission feature in Figma.

The Problem

When working with larger design teams, developers can see all pages within a Figma file, including work-in-progress designs that are not yet finalized or approved. This can lead to developers accidentally using unfinished designs as development references.

Current Workaround and Its Limitations

We considered using separate Figma files for designers and developers, transferring completed designs to the development file once they are ready.

However, this approach creates significant overhead, especially when working with a newly established and continuously evolving design system. Frequent changes to color variables, typography styles, and components require libraries to be repeatedly published and updated across files.

This makes maintaining consistency and keeping both files synchronized unnecessarily time-consuming.

Our Suggestion

We would love to see page-level visibility permissions that allow specific pages to be accessible only to selected team members or roles.

For example:

  • Completed Designs: Visible to both designers and developers.
  • In Design Phase: Visible exclusively to designers and completely hidden from developers.

This would allow design teams to work freely on unfinished designs without exposing them to developers prematurely, while keeping everything within a single Figma file and shared design system.

We’ve attached a simple UI concept to illustrate how this could work. Pages restricted to designers are indicated with a lock icon and a “Designers Only” label.

We believe this feature would significantly improve collaboration, reduce unnecessary library maintenance, and make design-to-development workflows much more efficient.

We’d love to hear what the community thinks about this idea!

Thank you.
