Export to Figma Make - Library

Hello there, 

I’m facing an issue where when i publish my library and try to export it to Figma Make. The option of “ Export to Figma Make” does not seems to appear.

I’m on an education plan and I have double checked all the files. They are i the same education plan project.

Hey ​@Mariane Moro, thanks for reaching out! 

We've replaced the "Export to Figma Make" flow with a newer system called Make kits, so the option several people in this thread were looking for has actually moved, not disappeared.

Here's the current path to bring a published library's styles into Figma Make:

  1. Open the Figma Design file with your published library.
  2. Click the dropdown arrow next to the file name (top left).
  3. Select Use library in Make.

That opens Figma Make with your library automatically added to a new Make kit. From there you can finish assembling the kit (add guidelines, test it, etc.) and publish it so your team can use it too.

If you'd rather start from a Make file instead:

  1. Open a Make file.
  2. Click Settings in the top-right corner, then Create a kit.
  3. Choose Assemble your kit, select Library on the left, and pick your published library from the list.

A couple of things worth double-checking if you still don't see the option:

  • You'll need a Full seat with edit access to the library's source file. Dev and Collab seats won't see this.
  • The library needs to already be published (not just used locally in one file).

Hey ​@Ayaan Ali, thanks for flagging this! 

Let me walk you through the steps to troubleshoot this issue.
 
To export a library for Figma Make, you'll need to:
 

  1. Open your Figma Design file that contains the library you want to export
  2. Select the Assets tab in the left sidebar
  3. Click Libraries
  4. Find your file in the "This file" section and click Publish to open the library publishing modal
  5. If the library isn't published yet, click Publish at the bottom of the modal (only published libraries can be exported to Figma Make)
  6. Look for the "Export for Make" button - this should appear after publishing

 
If you're not seeing the "Export for Make" option, here are a few things to check:
 

  • Do you have edit access to the library's source file? Only people with edit access can export libraries to Figma Make
  • Is the library published? The library must be published before you can export it to Figma Make
  • Are there components, styles, or variables in the file? If there are none, try creating at least one to see if the export option appears

Hello ​@Gayani_S , Thanks for your response.

I read all the troubleshooting methods you have suggested and double checked if I’m missing anything there. Certainly i have followed everything correctly.
 

  • The library I’m trying to export into Figma make is being created by me. So i think there is no restrictions there for me to publish the library or to export it to Figma Make.
  • And I have already published the library. And in other design files, the library is visible to use. But when i try to export the library to Figma Make. I do not see any option like usually users get to export their library to Figma Make
  • And yes in the library large amount of Styles and variables are present.

    Wish to hear back from you.
    Hope this issue will be resolved soon.

    Are you using the desktop app or the browser version of Figma? If you switch between the two, do you notice any difference?
    If that doesn't seem to help, could you share screenshots or a brief video recording of the issue so I have a better understanding of what you're seeing? Please be sure to include the whole window, showing the properties and layers panels and relevant layers expanded to give me added context.
