Education plan now limiting access and generating invoices

Good day, Figma team,

I have been a user of Figma in my classroom for several years and have appreciated the Education plan for myself and to be able to grant access to students.

At the beginning of the semester, I was advised to re-verify my education plan. I was successful at doing so. While we experienced some challenges with verification on the student side, most students have successfully verified. Unfortunately, some students remain stuck in the SheerID support loop.

Most recently, students are receiving expiration notices even after successfully verifying their account via SheerID. Additionally, they are being advised to purchase the plan for $20/month, which is not equitable for our student population.

While searching my account, I confirmed that my education verification status remains and I am now being presented with invoice information.

To date, I have reached out to Figma via chat for an account review, emailed education@figma.com, and now posting to the forum.

Is there anything that can be done to revert my plan back to “Education” so that students and I can move forward with closing out the semester successfully? Any help/guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi @Kenyada,

I understand that you and your students are experiencing issues with Education plan verification.

Unfortunately, Figma Support isn’t able to directly assist with the verification process, such as reviewing documents or confirming individual eligibility.
If your students haven’t completed verification yet, please contact SheerID directly. SheerID will review your submission or appeal and notify you if your status can be approved.

I also recommend checking the Troubleshooting verification and Frequently Asked Questions sections in this article: Figma for Education You can find possible scenarios and next steps there.

For students who are receiving expiration notices even after successfully verifying via SheerID, please first confirm that the email address on their Figma account matches the one used for SheerID verification.

  • If the emails don’t match, students can request to update the email associated with their verified Education account using this form: Request to Move Figma EDU Status Our Education team handles these requests.

  • If the emails match, please have them contact our Education team at education@figma.com from their verified Figma account email, including details (like screenshots).

The team will review the case and respond within up to 5 business days.

Regarding the invoice you mentioned, it looks like you’re the owner of the Pro team “FA25 - ART 263 MFH1.” However, since you have access to several Student and Starter teams, there may be other related teams as well.

Just so you know, anyone you invite with “can edit” access to a team must  verify their education status within seven days before they can contribute.
It’s not possible to have a mix of free education members and paid non-education members on the same Professional team.

To take a closer look at this billing issue, I’ll create a support ticket on your behalf using the information you’ve provided. So that our Support team will be able to follow up with you directly via the email associated with your account.

Once you receive the ticket email, please reply with your invoice information (such as a screenshot) so our team can confirm the details.

Thanks,

Kenyada
