Hello Figma Support Team,

We are contacting you on behalf of LABA Rimini, an Italian higher education institution.

We are currently experiencing an issue with our Figma Education account: students are receiving the message “Your Education status has expired. To keep using Pro features, upgrade your team or verify your education status”, and as a result we are no longer able to use the account as expected.

The account is registered with the domain labarimini.com.
I am a lecturer at LABA Rimini, and this account is used for teaching purposes by both teachers and students.

We would like to understand:

  • why the Education status appears to have expired,

  • whether there is an issue with the verification of our institution or domain,

  • and what steps are required to restore full access for our students and faculty.

Could you please help us investigate what is happening and guide us on how to resolve this issue?

Thank you very much for your support.
We look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
Gianluca

Hi Gianluca, thanks for reaching out and for the detailed context.

What you’re seeing is expected behavior: Education access is granted for one year, and students and educators need to re-verify their status once it expires, even if they’re still enrolled or teaching.

I see that you have verified your status with the institutional domain (labarimini.com), so there doesn’t appear to be an issue with the domain itself.

To restore access, each student and educator needs to reapply individually. Figma partners with SheerID for education verification, and the process is as follows:

  1. Log in to Figma using the account you want to verify

    • If the account uses a personal email, update it to a school-issued email address first

    •  The domain of your email address must match the domain of your school institution.

  2. Go to the Education status application page: https://www.figma.com/education/apply

  3. Select Higher Education as the institution type

  4. Agree to the terms of service and click Submit

  5. Complete the SheerID verification form with school and personal details

Once verification is successful, Education access should be restored automatically. If anyone runs into issues during the SheerID process, they can contact the SheerID support team for help reviewing their specific case.

For more information, you can check our guide: Figma For Education

Hope this helps clarify what’s happening!

Hi,

thank you for your detailed explanation.

I’d like to clarify that all the steps you outlined have already been completed by our students, multiple times, and the issue still persists.

To be very explicit:

  • Students are logged into Figma using their school-issued email addresses (@labarimini.com)

  • They access https://www.figma.com/education/apply

  • They select Higher Education

  • They agree to the terms and submit the application

  • They complete the SheerID verification form successfully, without errors

However, after completing this process:

  • Students do not receive confirmation emails from SheerID

  • Their Figma accounts do not regain Education status

  • They continue to see the message:

“Your Education status has expired. To keep using Pro features, upgrade your team or verify your education status.”

  • Their projects remain locked in view-only mode

  • This situation persists 7–14 days after verification

SheerID has confirmed that:

  • my lecturer verification is active and valid,

  • the institutional domain labarimini.com is correctly recognized,

  • and that this issue is outside the scope of individual verification.

Because:

  • multiple students are affected,

  • the correct Higher Education verification flow has been followed,

  • and the domain and lecturer status are valid,

this no longer appears to be a standard re-verification case, but rather an institution-level or backend issue preventing Education access from being applied to student accounts.

Could you please:

  • review the Education status of our student accounts on your side,

  • check if there is an issue with our Education team or annual renewal,

  • or escalate this to the team responsible for Education access provisioning?

This issue is currently blocking active coursework, so any help in resolving it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and support.

Kind regards,
Gianluca

Hi @gianluca.pasini , thanks for the details!
I checked internally with the Figma Education team, and they confirmed that we don’t block email domains on our end. For this university, the accepted student domain appears to be stud.labarimini.com, and students using that domain have successfully verified as recently as today.

It’s possible that stud.labarimini.com is the only domain currently recognized for students at that institution, so the university may need to update their records if students are using labarimini.com instead.

In the meantime, students using labarimini.com can also reach out directly to SheerID Support here to have their individual cases reviewed if they’re unable to update their records. SheerID is best equipped to advise on next steps.

Just as a heads-up, we’re not able to manually review or update Education verification statuses on our side, SheerID manages the verification process end to end. Thanks for your understanding and hope this gets resolved quickly!
