Question

Desktop app login only possible with changing standard browser

Since I’m using a non-popular browser for security reasons, I downloaded the Figma desktop app as a workaround. The problem is that I can’t login because when Figma prompts me to log in, it opens the login page in the browser automatically – and I can’t tell it to use a different browser or copy the link to a different browser manually.

So whenever I want to log in to the Figma desktop app, I have to manually change my standard browser to be able to do.

That is absolutely ridiculous and one of the worst UX I’ve ever experienced.

Hi, @Birgit Spalt-Zoidl. Thanks for your post - I can appreciate that this isn’t an ideal login flow for you, especially given your reason for using a non-popular browser.

Were you thinking of the desktop app having an option to specify what browser is used for logging in, or something else? I’d like to share your feedback with the team, so I wanted to get a fuller picture of what would be the experience you want to see. Thanks!

Honestly, simply providing a link to the relevant page I can c+p myself into the browser would be enough. There’s plenty of space to add display a link for us to c+p.

Right now, there’s only the button. That button can only be clicked normally and goes straight to the standard browser. Right-click doesn’t work on this button, but would usually give me options like “copy link” or specify how I want to open it.

So I’d say the easiest workaround is to simply add a little text below the button with the link text to the login page.
