Design system color variables sometimes not appearing in colour dropdown

My team and I are experiencing a frustrating issue with Figma's handling of color variables from our design system library. While we have no problems accessing and using styles, color variables are extremely unreliable. In some frames, Figma correctly lists and displays the variables, while in others, it fails to recognize them, even when the colors are actively used within the file. This inconsistency occurs across multiple team members' Figma accounts. We've searched for similar reports but haven't found a solution. Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

I’m currently experiencing this. Did you find any workaround?

@kasidyray Double check in your design system if you have defined scope for your variables. If yes, certain variables will not display depending on area that you’re trying to apply variable to.

Despite understanding this, sometimes it still remains laggy in certain areas and for that I have no explanation or workaround :(

Hey both - from what I’ve been told, scoping variables shouldn't have an effect on file performance. However, I don’t want to completely assume that.

It may be a completely different issue, and we can have our technical quality team take a look.

When you both have a moment, can you fill out this form with detailed notes of what exact lag they are seeing (editor, variable collection, prototype) + how they are reproducing? The steps to do this:

1) Visit here, and fill out the fields: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001744374

2) **If you are able to: share edit access to the file you have the most issues with support-share@figma.com. This is the official support file share address, and you won’t be charged for doing so. Please also indicate the name of the file when you submit the form.

Once you’ve done that, let me know and I’ll get this escalated 😁
