Copy–paste issue in Figma make

I’m experiencing a persistent copy–paste issue in Figma.
Whenever I copy frames or components from Figma Make to a Figma Design project, the layout gets distorted — spacing changes, auto-layout breaks, and typography styles don’t map correctly.

If anyone has faced this and found a reliable solution, please share. This is slowing down my workflow, especially when combining Make explorations with production-ready design files.

Hi @sagarb.aloha,

I understand you’re running into issues when copying a Figma Make preview into a Figma Design file.

Could you double-check the steps below to make sure everything is set up correctly?

  1. Make sure you’re in the preview of your Figma Make file. (To cover the basics, you can also try refreshing the preview or the page.)
  2. Navigate to the specific state you want to copy (a page, screen, or interface view).
  3. Click the “Copy design” icon at the top of Figma Make.

Here’s the guide for reference: Copy a Figma Make preview as design layers

If the issue still happens, could you please share a bit more detail?

• A screenshot or screen recording showing the steps you take (with the full Figma window visible)
• A link to the affected file(s) and an invite to support-share@figma.com with edit access so our team can test on our side. (Don’t worry — adding @figma.com users won’t affect your billing.)

Once we have this information, I can create a support ticket on your behalf so our team can investigate further if needed.

Thanks,

I FOUND WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!

Just copy the site before you start using stuff in it (Before you start to scroll,  or to press buttons, or any animations start to appear..)

Figma make, Looks OK
When pasting in Figma Design. Things out of place, size changes for texts…

Zouheir_IDMIREN

I followed all the recommended suggestions, but it’s still not working — it only copies.

Hi @Zouheir_IDMIREN, thanks for chiming in here!

I understand how this must be slowing down your workflow, but may I ask… when you say “it only copies". Are you actually expecting it to be a working preview? If so, please note that pasted layers are a static snapshot of your preview. The copied layers won't be interactive, won't be connected to your Figma Make file, and won't be automatically linked to your design system. This is currently expected behavior. You can read more about this in our Help Center article here.

If the issue is actually that your layout looks distorted after pasting, like the original post, here are a few things to try:

1. Use the Copy design button at the top of the Figma Make preview (not Cmd/Ctrl+C)
2. Copy immediately on load, before scrolling, clicking, or any animations trigger. @elad witzman found this made a big difference!
3. Wait for the confirmation before pasting. Figma Make will let you know when the layers are ready. Pasting too early can cause issues.

Hope this helps!
