Hello!

This issue is getting on my nerves for over a year.

So, the issue is basically reported in this topic from 7 months ago and it seems that it’s still not fixed properly.

In short, when I copy some element and try to paste it somewhere else, it’s 50% chance it will paste what I copied moments ago or something from the last clipboard state. I’m 100% certain I clicked Ctrl + C before.

To answer community support member right away - I’m on windows, but other member on my team is using Mac and encounter SAME issues as I do. Also, it’s not linked to the specific file, it happens all the time.

Also, when I try to copy something from computer back to figma, it’s also working in the same unpredictable manner.

How to fix this please?

Hi @Dejan_Kuzmanovic, thanks for flagging this!

I just tested this using text, and it’s working as expected consistently for me. What types of elements are you trying to copy + paste into Figma?
Are you using Figma in the browser or the desktop app?

With a few more details we can try to reproduce the issue, so our team can pinpoint the issue and work on a fix.

I have encountered the same issue multiple times. Copying text works fine, but the bug persists when attempting to copy/paste or copy/paste to replace components.

Example:

  • I create the default state of a component on my main page and group it.
  • I then copy the created group and paste it onto my component page to turn it into a component and create the additional states.
  • Next, I copy the default state again and navigate back to my main page to paste and replace the original group I had created.
  • At this point, the bug occurs. It pastes the first copied group instead of the default state of the component.
  • I then return to the component page, copy it again, and paste to replace, which resolves the issue.

I primarily use the Figma Desktop App on Windows.

Thanks!

Hey @Sotiris Kapodistrias! Thanks for your post and for the extra details you provided to outline what you are seeing.

It’s interesting, I’ve personally encountered this with copy/paste in general computer usage over the years; it’s definitely weird and inconsistent. I don’t know that it’s the same as what you are seeing, but I mention it because it does interrupt my flow in the same way.

Regarding Figma, though, I replicated what you described in my own test file and filed a ticket with our team so they can investigate. Thanks for your patience while they look into this!
