I have a setup where there’s a file that acts as a library carrying main components and a couple of design files for different platforms that calls these components from the main library file.
However. after some time (During which I haven’t worked on any of the files or the main library) I opened the files and found out that the majority of components and instance swaps in my design files had reset to their main states. some of them have nested variants from other components within them
nothing triggered this as the files and the library were left unopened for about a month. So I wasn’t working on the project or in other words it’s not a library update that triggered this, it happened on it's own.
for more details about the components in my mobile app design I had a Title bar with a varying number of icons between different pages (notification & side menu & message icons) some pages had only 1 of them.. some pages had 2..etc.
This was setup from the main component where I have the 3 icons existing and then when I need to only show 2 of them in an instance I use the appearance panel to hide the icons that I don’t want to show.
These icons are rectangular components with the icon inside as an instance swap property
Now all the screens have the 3 icons just like the main component and all the icons have the default icon of the instance swap property (not notification & side menu & messages anymore)
is anyone having the same issue ? what can I do about this ?

if anyone came across this topic. I have made some quick workaround by restoring the latest file version where everything was fine. I ended up losing some recent changes but this loss is pale in comparison to the work I would have had to do to edit every instance throughout multiple design files.

I have the same problem, but in my history, no matter how many times I go back, it stays in the original state of my library.
I also have the same issue. I have had multiple screens on which a nested instance in my button and input component just reset on its own. And not just after some time but from one day to another even though there were no changes done to the library and or branch. Just an overnight change of info-i icons to apples and edit/dropdown icons to the circle set as placeholder in the design system.
My team and I have noticed some issues with component instances in the past, where they appear wrong / distorted but change back after clicking on them (also very very annoying but at least recified rather quickly) but this did not work here and I had to swap all instances manually.
Please, figma, correct whatever is causing this because it gets increasingly difficult to argue why we should continue to use figma to management even though us designers generally love it.
