Color preview freezing when trying to select a color within the app

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with the color picker in the Figma desktop application.

Version: Figma Desktop App 126.4.11

 

Issue:

When using the color picker, the color preview initially updates correctly for a few seconds after activation. After that, the preview becomes stuck on a single color and no longer reflects the color currently being hovered.

Despite the preview displaying the wrong color, selecting a color still applies the correct color value. The issue appears to affect only the preview display.

If "Select color anywhere" is enabled and I move the cursor outside of the Figma application window, the preview immediately begins updating correctly again and follows the color currently being hovered.

Browser Comparison

When using Figma in a web browser on the same machine, the color picker functions normally and the preview updates correctly at all times.

What I tried

  • Restarted my computer

  • Cleared/reloaded the Figma application cache

  • Tested in multiple Figma files

 

Please let me know if there are any logs, diagnostics, or additional information I can provide.

I’m having this same issue and confirmed that at least one other team member is experiencing this as well. Mac (latest) Figma app (latest)

Hey ​@Franco_Scaramuzza , thank you for flagging it! The bug mentioned by @jdn is already on our engineering team's radar, so you're in the right place. While they work on a fix, here are a couple of ways to keep things moving in the meantime:

  1. Use the browser for any colour picking work
  2. Type your values directly (HEX or RGB) in the desktop app to bypass the picker entirely
