Color Picker Always Detects Black Regardless of Sampled Color

Hi, I’m experiencing an issue with the color picker tool in Figma.

When I try to select a color from my design using the Color Picker, it always detects the color as black (HSB 0° 0 0), even though the area I’m sampling clearly has different colors. No matter which part of the frame or image I select, the result is always black.

I’ve already tried zooming in, restarting Figma, and switching files, but the issue still persists. It happens on every document.
I’m not sure whether this is a bug in the color picker or something related to my settings.

Could you please help me troubleshoot this issue?

Thank you!

Hi @Rifdah Inas Nazhifah,

I understand you’re running into an issue where the color picker always returns black.

I tried to reproduce this on my side, but everything seems to be working normally here.

If you haven’t already, could you please try the following quick fixes?

  • Browser: Force-quit your current session and open Figma in a completely new browser window.
  • Desktop App:Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it.

If the issue still persists, let’s dig a bit deeper:

  • Does this happen in the browser, the desktop app, or both?
  • Are you running the latest version of your browser and the Figma Desktop app?
  • If you're using the browser, do you see the same behavior in other supported browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)?

If the issue continues, please share the following:

  • A short screen recording or full-screen screenshot showing the issue
  • The results of the troubleshooting steps above

With this information, we can escalate the issue to our team for further investigation if needed.

Thanks!
