Hello, I'm now using a new Claude account that I've connected to Figma. However, when I ask Claude to directly edit a file in Figma, it tells me it can't, because it only has read-only access. Everything worked fine with my old account, but I feel like I've set exactly the same settings. Could someone help me out? Thank you!

👋🏻 Hey @Guillaume Bandet, welcome to Figma Forum!

Thanks for flagging this — good to know it worked with your old account.

Two quick questions:

  1. Double checking on when you say everything worked fine on your old account, do you mean the Claude account, the Figma account, or both?
  2. The process for setting up is a bit different, so I want to be sure — are you using the remote or the desktop MCP server option? If you're not certain, you can ask your agent: "Which version of the Figma MCP server am I using?"

Worth checking as well: Ask your agent to run whoami. It'll tell you which Figma account is actually authenticated and what seat it holds — writing to files outside your drafts needs a Full seat.

The Write to canvas guide is worth a look too. It covers what's needed to have an agent edit a Figma file, including which server provides the write tools.

Let me know how it goes or if you get stuck at any specific step within the guide — and if any questions remain we'll get this sorted out.
