I’m trying to create an interaction to do a simple light/darkmode switch in Figma Sites - but it’s missing the “Set variable mode” interaction. Is there a workaround / is Figma planning to add this in?

I have the exact same issue. What I tried to do is to have two variants of the same screen in Figma design, one with theme A and the other with theme B. Then in Figma Sites you can toggle the two variants but it would be nice to switch mode. Only issue: what if the modes are defined inside a Figma design file and not inside the Figma Sites file? Would be nice to switch mode from a library linked to your Figma Sites.

I’m digging through all the topics about that and none of them has a reply from Figma...I really miss the “Set Variable Mode” option in Figma Sites. I want to use for both light/dark themes and for localization/multi-language.

I don’t know if there’s a technical barrier or if it is something that they forgot or don’t think is a good fit for Figma Sites, but my naive mind believes it is something really simple to implement as they already have this option on Figma Design…

Perhaps a workaround might be ask for Figma Make to add a button and handle the theme change, but I haven’t tested yet.

Well, let’s hope Figma gives more love to Figma Sites and add this and other cool and needed features so we can create amazing sites without barriers and limitations!
