When attempting to paste a layer into a component while multi-editing, the layer will not paste inside the component variants; it will paste outside the component.
If I pasted into just 1 variant it works, but when multi-editing is on, it does not work.

Looking at our "Edit objects on the canvas in bulk" article, you're right. This change should propagate across all your variants.
To help me troubleshoot, could you share a few quick details?
Which operating system are you running?
Are you using a browser or the desktop app (and which version)?
Does the same thing happen if you press Q to toggle Multi-edit instead of using the sidebar button?
If you're on a browser, does a hard refresh change anything?
