Cannot access Figma file after Education Plan update- Support Ticket #2143984

Hi everyone,

I urgently need help regaining access to a file.

When I opened the file, Figma wouldn't let me edit it and asked me to update my Education Plan. I clicked "update," and right after that I was kicked out of the file and can no longer open it. Now I only get a message saying that a request has been sent to the file owner.

The problem is that we don't know who the owner is, and we have no way to find out or contact them. This file is very important for our company, so we're completely blocked.

I opened a support ticket on September 21 (request #2143984), but I haven't received any reply beyond the automatic confirmation.

Could someone from the Figma team please help escalate the ticket, or tell us how we can identify the file owner or recover access? I'm happy to share my account email and the file link via DM.

Thanks in advance!

Hey @Alberto Hidalgo, thanks for reaching out!

I can see you already have a request open with our team (ticket #2143984). We're working through a higher volume of requests than usual right now, so replies are taking longer currently.

I am not able to help on the Forum since confirming file ownership and restoring access means looking directly at your account. So that part has to happen through the ticket rather than here on the forum.

A couple of things that might help explain what's going on while you wait:

  • What you're describing often happens when an Education team's status needs re-verifying. Even if you personally reverified, the team stays tied to whoever the team owner is. If their education status hasn't been reverified, the whole team (everyone in it, including reverified members) can lose edit access. Figma for Education covers this scenario and how to fix it.
  • The "request sent to owner" message is our standard Request to edit a file flow, anyone with edit access to the file (not just the original owner) can approve it. So it's worth checking if a teammate already has edit access and could approve it directly.

We'll follow up on #2143984 as soon as we can, and thanks for your patience in the meantime!
