Can't Give Edit Access to a Figma File

I understand you want to give your client edit access to just one file in your Professional plan team.

In Figma, seats and permissions work differently:

• Seat: determines what Figma products someone can use — Figma Design, FigJam, Figma Slides, etc.

• Permission: determines what they can do on a team/project/file — for example, Can view or Can edit.

If you want to give your client edit access to a Figma Design file in your team, they’ll need:

• Seat: Full

• Permission: “Can edit” on the file

The message you’re seeing (“an admin needs to update his seat”) means your client doesn’t currently have the right seat type to edit the file.

On paid plans, collaborators need both the correct seat and “can edit” permission to edit a file. Seats are approved based on the admin’s seat approval settings.

Please note that adding or changing seats will affect your team’s subscription.
