[Bug] Using slots breaks sizing of content inside

This was not an issue yesterday, but today, when duplicating a component that uses a slot that has a max-width set, the sizing gets expanded and doesn’t respect the fill width settings. You have to manually reset it.

When duplicating a section that looks correct, on paste, the sizing is wrong.

When editing anything inside the section, the sizing gets messed up.

Hey, @colormecosmic! Thanks for your post and for reporting this. Seems like an inconsistent experience for you!

Just to make sure I’m understanding you correctly, you’re seeing two different things:

  1. When duplicating a component, slots with max-width set no longer respect that in the duplicate, requiring a manual fix.
  2. When duplicating a section (aka frame), sizing of slots within components in the section are also no longer respecting max-width.

With the second item, is it just slots or layers that contain slots as I described above, or do you see this more generally with different layers? And, for both items, are you duplicating using the duplicate option, or are you copying and pasting? The answers to these questions will help me better understand how to try and replicate, as well as understand if this is expected behavior for some reason or a bug. Thanks!

Hi @adamsmasher
1. Correct. I do want to add that my component itself has a max-width as well, and I’m using a numerical variable to set that size.
2. Duplicating a frame and slots within the component will respect the width, but editing the text inside the frame will not respect it.

Within the second item, layers that contain slots as described above.
I’m duplicating using the cmd+d, and the same issue persists when using copy and then paste.

I’ve attached a screen recording below if that’s helpful:

  • It depicts me showing the max widths of the component and the slot inside the component
  • Then going into an instance of it where I duplicate the component inside the base component slot (sizing resets)
  • Then I duplicate the entire base component section that holds that component (sizing resets)
  • Then the last one is where I duplicate just the slot within that component and that one doesn’t reset.

Thank you for looking into this!

Hi @colormecosmic 👋

Thanks for confirming and for the video. You don't need to send anything further, as we've got what we need from what you've already shared.

It looks like it's tied to a sizing behavior with slots. The specific details about the reset on duplicate or paste, plus the edit-triggered reset, are helpful.

I don't have a timeline yet, but I'll follow up here as soon as I hear back. Appreciate your assistance on this one! —Jaycee
