[BUG] Slots occasionally break sizing of content inside

Sasja Koning

We’ve run into a decently major issue when it comes to the new Slots in Figma.

We’ve seen this happening quite a few times before but had trouble reproducing it.

On occasion, designs we’ve made that include slots break. Sometimes this happens when we click the designs, but often times it happens out of nowhere, without our knowledge.

This is a big issue, as these designs need to stay consistent for our development team.

I have two examples attached where we’ve been able to reproduce it, seemingly by reloading the page.

What happens:

  1. We create a design including a component using slots
  2. The slot itself has auto-layout set up. In one example that’s simply horizontal, the other has a wrap.
  3. This works fine, until suddenly it breaks (We don’t know what causes it)
  4. the widths of some elements inside the slot changes causing the original design to break.
  5. When it happens we cannot revert it using cmd+z
  6. We have to manually fix the sizing. But it can happen multiple times even after fixing.

This is something that impacts our workflow greatly, as many of our designs use components with slots!

If any additional information is needed, I’m happy to share. But please note that the files cannot be shared as they handle sensitive data.

Hi everyone,
Update: Sharing this here for anyone running into the same issue!

For the issue flagged by @Sasja Koning : our engineering team has verified a fix which should be rolling out by end of the week. In the meantime, we recommend using the "Regenerate instances in selection" tool on new instances. If the issue persists after that, feel free to reply directly to your support case. It'll reopen the ticket and the team can take it from there.

For anyone else experiencing the same thing, please submit a bug report via the Support Hub / Type “Report a bug” / Click Start a chat and follow the prompts. Thanks for your patience! 🙏

I am serious. This needs a fix ASAP.

It break on reload as soon as I touch it.

Similar problem:

I have the following structure

  • 🔷Instance component X
    • 🔷Instance component Y
      • = Frame
        • ➕ Slot
          • 🔷Instance component Z

All layers are set to Fill but 🔷Instance component Z often set itself randomly to Fixed Width. The sh***y workaround is now to set the Variants container of component Z to such a width that the bug is not visible in the instances anymore.
I have attached one visual dummy example with altered colors and texts.

This needs fixing yesterday.

What’s interesting, when I reload the page and click inside the component, it shifts. But when I duplicate the component, the original layout is there.

However, reloading and clicking the duplicated component breaks it again.

I managed to get a better view of this issue and created a follow up thread here:

I’m having this same bug but NOT within slot usage - there are no slots on this design, and I’m not using a component in it either. It’s randomly changing the numbers on the fixed width for 90% of one set of frames, but not the others on the page. Unlike the text bug that fixes itself when you click into it, this one has to be manually updated every single time. Most of the time it happens overnight when I’m not in the file, but just now it happened 3 times in 40 minutes when I was working on a completely different part of the canvas of the same page. I scrolled over to check something and 90% of it was broken again, and had to be manually fixed again. 😭
