Bug report: Extreme lag when editing components

Hi! As of today when I’m editing components, the whole Figma file freezes/displays extreme lag down.

I can otherwise work on the file with no problems, but if I try to push color changes/sizing changes/etc. on to the main component, the whole file frozes. Currently this seems to affect only one file. 

I’m using Figma Desktop. I’ve followed the troubleshooting checklist;

  • I’ve cleared Figma’s cache,
  • checked I’m using the newest version,
  • closed every other tab
  • restarted my whole laptop (I’m on Mac)
  • tried to remove heavy assets on the file (svg assets, images, etc.)
  • tried using Figma with and without my company’s VPN (no change in performance)

yet the issue persists. This is severely impacting my team’s work. :(

Thank you for flagging this, and for sharing the detailed troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried. Appreciate you taking the time to narrow this down.

Since the performance issue only happens when editing main components and appears isolated to a single file, this does sound like it may be file-specific behavior.

If you haven’t already, could you try copying the affected component into a separate test file or duplicating the file itself to see whether the lag continues there? That can help narrow down whether the issue is tied to the component itself or the overall file complexity.

In the meantime, I’ve gone ahead and created a support ticket so the team can investigate further. Your case number is #1904048.

It would be really helpful if you could reply directly to the ticket with the following:

  • A screen recording showing the freezing or lag behavior, if possible
  • A link to the impacted file, and invite support-share@figma.com with “Can View” access (this won’t impact your billing and will allow us to reproduce the issue and investigate further with Engineering).

Hi! I’ve invited Support to view the file. 

I’ve also tried to copy any of the components (they all seem to be affected) to a separate file; this also seems to freeze/lag Figma.

When you have a moment, could you share the file link directly in the support ticket too? I also noticed someone from the team has followed up there with next steps, please have a look at your inbox when you have a chance.
