Bug Report: Continuous text pasting/ghosting when panning on Ubuntu 26.04 (Firefox 150)

  • OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS

  • Browser: Firefox (version 150)

  • Devices tested: Dell Inspiron 15 3530 and Dell Inspiron 3501

Problem Description

When using Figma in Firefox, an unexpected behavior occurs while panning (moving the canvas) with the cursor. The last sentence typed or copied starts appearing repeatedly across the screen, as if a "Ctrl + V" command were being triggered continuously.

This behavior only happens during canvas movement. As soon as the movement stops, the "pasting" effect ceases.

This bug directly impacts workflow, making Figma unusable in Firefox and forcing a switch to other browsers.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Figma in Firefox.

  2. Access any file.

  3. Type or copy any text string.

  4. Move the canvas using the cursor (pan).

  5. Observe that the text is repeatedly "pasted" or rendered across the screen during the movement.

Hello @Tamy Martins!

Thank you for taking the time to document this issue so thoroughly. It’s pretty weird! I just checked and it looks like there was an update released for FireFox today - can you update to version 150.0.2? I’m not sure if any of the fixes in this release will affect this, but we should make sure you’re on the newest version and verify that before going further. I couldn’t replicate this in this version, however I’m using mac OS so I can’t test what would happen in Ubuntu.

Let me know what happens with version 150.0.2 and we’ll go from there.

Hello @adamsmasher!

Thank you for your response!

I followed your suggestion and updated Firefox to version 150.0.2, but the issue is still occurring.

I was not able to reproduce the bug on my personal computer running Windows. I also tested it on Chrome, where the issue does not occur, it seems to happen only on Firefox running on Ubuntu.

I ran tests on older Ubuntu versions as well, and the bug persists in the same way.

→ Note: in the video, I am only moving the canvas using the mouse scroll button (middle click), without pressing any other keys.
I noticed that when panning using the spacebar + mouse (left click), or when using the Hand Tool (H), the issue does not occur.
The problem only happens when using the mouse scroll button. 🤔

Ok, thank you for trying that, @Tamy Martins! Also thank you for the video - that is pretty wild to see in action.

I created a bug ticket with our team so they can investigate, and included the details you provided as well as your video. I’m glad this does not occur in other browsers so you aren’t blocked from working. Oh, one thing I just thought of - do you have another mouse that uses a different scrolling mechanism, or a track ball? I’m just wondering if it’s more specific to that mouse type.

I just heard back from our team and they have a few followup questions for you, @Tamy Martins:

  1. Do you have any third party software that might be rebinding the middle mouse click?
  2. Does this behavior happen after refresh?
  3. Is it specific to a particular tab or file, or is it not specific to just one tab/file?
  4. Does it happen on every browser on their Ubuntu machine or only Firefox?

For that last one, I wasn’t sure if you tried in Chrome in Ubuntu or WIndows (or both).

Thank you!
