BUG: Prototype Play opens incorrect frames and displays random pages instead of running prototype

When running a prototype in the Figma design file, the prototype sometimes launches from unrelated pages instead of the intended starting frame.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the Figma design file.

  2. Click Present / Play Prototype.

  3. Expect the prototype to start from the configured starting frame.

Actual result:
Instead of starting from the intended frame, the prototype repeatedly opens the same two unrelated pages/frames. The correct prototype flow cannot be accessed while this occurs.

Expected result:
The prototype should launch from the defined starting frame and follow the configured interactions.

Workaround:
Closing the file and reopening it temporarily resolves the issue, after which the prototype behaves normally. However, the issue reappears intermittently during later sessions.

Notes:

  • Issue appears intermittently.

  • Seems to cache or persist incorrect starting points until the file is reopened.

I just found the exact same bug. I had to copy paste into another file because even closing it, emptying cache and reloading the file triggered the same bug.

Hi all,

I understand you're all facing an issue where prototypes are launching from the wrong frame instead of the designated starting point.

Also, thanks for sharing the potential solutions of reopening or duplicating the file.

I haven't been able to reproduce this on my side (Figma desktop app v126.2.10 and Chrome). We'd love to gather a bit more information to pass on to our team.

Could you please let us know:

  • Is this happening in the browser, the desktop app, or both?
  • Is it isolated to a specific file, or does it happen in multiple files?
  • Additionally, have you tried any of these quick fixes from our Troubleshooting Checklist? If so, did any of them make a difference?

Thanks for your help!
