Blend mode Bug in Variables

Any Blend mode (like Overlay) resets to Normal when any element with a solid color variable is Duplicated, Copied or Moved. This has thrown my whole design in disarray, I use them in many places (buttons, badges, tags) and all the components become solid colors instead of Overlays

Hi, @Udit. Thanks for our post! I can see how this would impact your design if you’re making heavy use of blend modes.

Currently, blend modes aren't officially supported on fills that are bound to color variables - the fill panel is built to apply blend modes to a layer or to a color style, not to a color variable. You’re already reapplying the blend mode after the fact when you found that it didn’t copy, right? Since it doesn’t copy or save with the color variable, I assume you manually add this afterward. One other option would be to use a color style instead of a variable for that particular fill, since styles support blend modes reliably.

Additionally, I have some good news - support for blend modes on variables directly is something the team is actively looking at, so this is something that you will be able to do in the future. Thank you for your patience!

In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions!
