Auto Layout shortcut (Shift+A) mapped to physical key position on QWERTY — inconsistent with other shortcuts

Hey, I noticed an inconsistent behavior on Figma desktop with keyboard shortcuts when using a QWERTY layout.

The Auto Layout shortcut (normally Shift+A) seems to be mapped to the physical key position, which means it becomes Shift+Q on QWERTY. That alone could make sense.

But the issue is that all other Figma shortcuts correctly follow the logical QWERTY layout — so this one shortcut is inconsistent with everything else.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a known bug or an intentional choice from Figma?

Hey @celine.nguyen18, thanks for reaching out!

Before I dig into this properly, I have a couple of quick questions:

  • Which keyboard layout do you have selected in Figma? You can check under Main Menu > Preferences > Keyboard Layout
  • Are you on the desktop app or browser?
  • Which OS are you on (Mac or Windows)?

That'll help me understand whether this is a layout mapping issue or something more specific to the Auto Layout shortcut itself.

In the meantime, if you haven't already set your keyboard layout in Figma's preferences, that's worth trying first. Figma's default shortcuts are based on a US QWERTY keyboard, and some keys aren't available in other layouts, selecting your layout in preferences remaps shortcuts to better fit your physical keyboard. Our Select keyboard layout Help Center article walks through how to do that.

Once I have those details from you, I can look into whether what you're seeing with Shift+A is expected behaviour or something that needs escalating.
