Assets get desaturated (Figma slides)

Hey ​@Robert Lindell, thanks for flagging this. I hear you — accurate color is non-negotiable for creative work. Sorry this has been such a frustrating experience.

I wasn't able to reproduce it in my test file, so I'd love to dig into what may be different in your setup. A few things that would help me narrow it down:

1. Timing. How long has this been happening?
2. Severity. How severe is the desaturation — all colors affected, or specific ones?
3. Consistency. Is it happening across all files or just one, and is it consistent or intermittent?
4. Browser vs. App. Does it happen in both the Figma Desktop App and the browser?
5. Troubleshooting. What are the steps leading up to it, and does it also happen with non-JPG files?
6. Visuals. Can you share a screen recording of it in action?

With that, I can replicate the behavior and escalate to the right team.

I am experiencing this problem as well.  I have already discovered that if I take an image (jpeg or png) into Photoshop and embed it with sRGB it will display more accurately but that is a cumbersome process and not required by Google Photos. I’m using the web based version of Figma. I want to make a library of reference images of at least 30-50 with the ability of others to add to the library as well.

Where do your images come from and how were they made? As you’ve found, setting the color profile to RGB will resolve this, though changing it like you did in Photoshop isn’t necessarily the best for scalability (though you could do it as a batch update). Were these created in something else and then exported? I’m wondering if there’s a color option you could set to RGB.

The images are screen grabs, jpegs or pngs from past projects. And I am hoping that I can use Figma Design to create a library of images that myself and other can add to for use as reference files. Not everyone is going to be able to open and convert the files to sRGB. It would be nice if there was something I could automate inside Figma that would ingest the images and convert to sRGB. Or at least maintain the color integrity of the file when it is exported to be used elsewhere. Google Photos already does this but it is not as easy to share with multiple team members.

ps I also have a problem with Figma Design arbitrarily resizing images when I bring a large group of images into the frame. That may be a question for another day.

Ahh, so these are actually coming from other Figma Design files, ​@Dione.white? Before you converted to sRGB, what color profile were the images? In my experience, desaturation happens a lot when images are CMYK, but it would be strange for screenshots to use that color profile. Figma has two color profiles available for Slides, Design, and elsewhere. The article I just linked explains what you might see when going from one to another, though it doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re seeing. Out of curiosity, does this happen with all images you add, even a test screenshot or a fresh export from a Figma Design file?
