Aspect ratio lock instance swap bug

Thanks for launching this new feature!

I’m not sure if it is a bug, but I figured I would ask here.

Let’s say you have a parent container, with a child element called “Instance A” with a width that is set to autofill width.

When you swap out the Instance A (aspect ratio of 4:3) with another Instance B that has a different aspect ratio (16x9), and both components have ratio lock,  Instance A’s aspect ratio overrides that of the B’s.

To me, this isn’t to me, the B’s ‘locked’ ratio value should take priority. (personal opinion)

Now, there are two ways to restore B’s ratio.

  1. Right click into B, and reset.
  2. Resize parent container temporarily.  This will reset B’s ratio to 16x9.  And then you hit undo.

#2 feels like a bug to me.

But again, B’s locked ratio should take priority. (or give user control to set priority)

Thanks!

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I have been following the steps you outlined, and it appears that the Aspect Ratio is working as follows:

https://www.loom.com/share/6800c3f91bfb4b12b1f23075a4f7824e?sid=cbe27404-9c2f-4a33-b790-106bd02e8331

When setting a container with hug contents, the container adjusts proportionally based on the instance size, which appears to be the intended behavior.

Could you kindly provide a video recording so that we can further investigate the behavior you are observing?

Thanks,
Toku

I’m having the same issue with a component that has variants with different aspect lock — 1:1, 4:5, 5:4. Swapping between them works fine until you resize the component. So, if I drag out my 1:1 instance to be larger and then swap to 4:5, there’s a bug where the frame / container doesn’t properly adjust. I have to drag the frame again or reset the entire component.  Please see my video here: https://streamable.com/sbie31 You can start to see the issue around 00:17.

Hey @Ashley Schoenknecht , I’m working closely with Toku and happy to help!

Thanks for sharing the details. It sounds like the tool isn’t behaving as expected in your case. From what you’ve described, the aspect ratio in your variant set isn’t being maintained when resizing the component—it’s reverting back to the variant’s original size.

I see that you’ve already contacted the support team, and they’re currently investigating. Please continue the conversation with them, and feel free to share any updates here.

For others, feel also free to reach out to our support team if you’d like our team to investigate further your case: Submit a bug report.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, just sharing an update here for visibility on @Ashley Schoenknecht’s case regarding the aspect ratio lock not being preserved when switching between variants.

Our support team has filed a bug report, and our engineers are looking into it. To be fully transparent, it may take some time to resolve due to the complexity, but rest assured—it’s on our radar and the team is actively investigating!
