Hi @MOCU,

I understand you're seeing unexpected behavior when using the arrow keys — instead of moving the item straight, it begins to shift diagonally after a few pixels.

I just tested this on my end in both Figma Design and FigJam, but couldn’t reproduce the issue — the arrow keys worked as expected.

Let’s troubleshoot this further together.

First, please close any Figma tabs you’re not using, and then try the following:

  • Browser: Force-quit and open Figma in a new browser window.
  • Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it.

If the issue still occurs, could you help confirm the following?

  • Does this happen in one browser, across multiple browsers, only in the desktop app — or all of the above?

  • Is it happening in just one specific file, or across multiple files?

  • Which Figma product are you using when this happens? (e.g., Figma Design)

If the issue persists and you're open to submitting a bug report, this will help our team investigate further and more effectively. You can follow the steps in this guide: Submit a bug report

Thanks!

Same problem here. It’s happening time to time, but not always.

Hey All, thanks for chiming in here!

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps recommended by Junko above? 👆 With more information, we can try to flag this to our team to investigate further.

If you’ve tried the troubleshooting, could you please confirm if:

  • This happen in one browser type, across multiple browsers, only in the desktop app — or all of the above?

  • This is happening in one specific file or across multiple files?

  • This is happening in Figma Design?

That said, you can also follow the steps in this guide to Submit a bug report

Same exact issue here. If I hold arrow keys with or without shift modifier key it does the same odd behavior. Also does it occasionally when dragging a deep element with mouse. On mac, desktop app, trouble shooting tips didnt help

Shift + Arrow Keys still exhibiting erratic results.
e.g. Press and Holding Shift + Up Arrow = Move Right and Press and Holding Shift + Left Arrow = Move Down  (!?)

Hey All, thank you for following up about this!

After further investigation, accidental diagonal movement usually occurs when a "camera" layer is active in design tools (e.g., Adobe Animate). Is this the case for any of you?

If this is the case, can you please try the following?

  • Disable Cameras/Overlays: Turn off active cameras or Prototype overlays.
  • Check Plugins: If diagonal movement occurs, it may be caused by a "Move by Distance" plugin or similar tools.

After that, please try restarting Figma. Force-quit the desktop app or Figma in the browser to resolve the unexpected behavior. From there, please let us know if thing improve, or if you’re still running into issues.

That said, if you’d prefer direct one on one support, you are still welcome to follow all the steps in this guide to submit a bug report.
