Question

Animated library component doesn’t play when inserted from Assets, but existing instances work

An animated loader from our Design System does not animate in prototype mode when newly inserted from the Assets panel into one specific design document.

Older instances of the same library component still animate correctly in this document. Copying and pasting those working instances also preserves the animation. The component works correctly in other documents.

The source component has destination variants configured, using After delay → Change to → Smart Animate interactions.

Steps to reproduce:

Open the affected document.
Insert the “hexagon” loader from the Assets panel.
Open the containing frame in prototype mode.
Observe that the newly inserted loader remains static.
Copy an older, working loader instance into the document and preview it: it animates correctly.

Expected behavior
New instances inserted from Assets should animate like existing instances of the same published library component.

Actual behavior
Newly inserted instances remain static, while older instances and duplicates of them animate correctly.

Additional findings
Inspection indicates that the working and non-working instances share the same library component identity but reference different imported copies within the document. The working copy has resolved transition destinations; the non-working copy’s starting-state destinations appear unresolved, despite being configured in the source library. This may indicate a document-specific library import or synchronization issue.
