Question

AI frame bot won't recreate a screenshot in figma anymore

As recently as last week I could bring in a screenshot and ask the lil frame bot to “recreate this in figma” and it would build a new frame with components, text, images etc. Now it just edits the image itself, and tries to make it look like it’s being edited in figma 😂

The old functionality was so nice! I’m sad to have lost it.

Hey, @drewbeck 👋 Sorry to hear about this. Thank you for flagging it. To help us take a look, can you share:

  • A screenshot of the existing AI conversation and output
  • Whether the screenshot was selected on the canvas or attached to the conversation
  • The file with support by adding support-share@figma.com as a Viewer. This will not affect your seats or billing

Thank you! — Jaycee

Hey! I created a new file with some examples and a screenshot of my older, successful run and shared it. It’s called AI Test. I found out some more detail:

  • It works as expected using the sidebar agent. I can select an image on the canvas and tell the agent “recreate this in figma” and it will do it.
  • It works as expected if I frame my screenshot first then use the frame-based agent
  • If I select the screenshot directly the frame agent it doesn’t work – it gives me image models to choose from so it has already seemingly that it’s going to do gen image on it, not figma stuff.

What’s odd is that the last time I tried this and it worked I ran it on a screenshot – there’s a screenshot of THAT interaction in the file I shared.

I’m glad there’s a way to get this to work, with frames or the sidebar agent! Feels inconsistent tho, and not sure if it’s intentional.
