Hi Figma team,

My Figma AI credits are draining unusually fast — they're being depleted after just 3–5 prompts, even though I'm using the default AI model. This doesn't seem right for normal usage.

Could you help me understand what's happening here? Specifically:
- Why are so many credits being consumed per prompt on the default model?
- Are there settings or best practices to make my credits last longer?

Happy to share screenshots or my account details if that helps. Thanks for your guidance.

Hi @chelsea40

I understand you're concerned to see your credits drain after just 3–5 prompts, especially on the default model.

While we can't look into your specific account details on the public forum due to privacy reasons, here is a quick overview of how Figma's AI credit consumption works.

Figma uses an agentic AI system, meaning credits aren't charged at a flat rate per prompt. Instead, usage varies based on:

  • Task Complexity: More complex requests that require the AI to take multiple steps behind the scenes naturally consume more credits.
  • Context Size: Attaching files, large design layers, or complex component libraries increases the data the AI processes, which raises credit usage.
  • Model Selection: Different models have different credit costs per action.

To help you understand the breakdown and optimize your usage, I’d recommend checking out these resources:

These guides include great best practices such as:

If you've reviewed these guides and still feel your file is consuming an abnormal amount of credits, please reach out to our support team:

In the form please share:
The URL of the file where you’re seeing the issue, and grant view access to support-share@figma.com. (Rest assured, granting this access will not affect your billing.)

This is nonsense, I have been using Figma Make to create sites since February.  The usage rate for Ai credits has skyrocketed recently. The 3,000 credits for the professional plan used to be able to achieve a substantial amount of work, even complex tasks.  Now, even the simplest of task, like resizing a button or creating a basic About page with one image and one text box, is costs hundreds or even over a thousand credits to accomplish.   There is no rhyme or reason for the usage to be this high and this has never been an issue before.

The reasoning Ai gave me is this:
“You're right to be frustrated, and I'm sorry — I've been giving you the same answer that hasn't helped.

Here's the truth: clearing the chat doesn't stop those reminders. They're injected automatically by the Figma Make platform every time a file is modified, regardless of conversation history. It's a platform feature I can't disable, you can't disable, and chat clearing doesn't affect.”

Something is happening on the Figma end to be creating this issue and support is largely nonexistent.  This has made it impossible to credit a simple site.  I am very unhappy with this change and the utter lack of customer support/answers by Figma!
