Question

AI agent quality dropped significantly

Hi! I returned from vacation and noticed that Agent can’t do the simplest work that it did before easily.
For example, I asked to populate the table with numbers from screenshot and it couldn’t do it (but it did it multiple times just a couple weeks ago). I tried to ask it to copy some other things from screenshots, but it did only the smallest part of work which make it completely useless for me. I use an organisation subscription plan with enormous amount of tokens, so I don’t think that I just run out of tokens.

Last time I got this error:

👋🏻 Hi @Daria V, welcome to Figma Forum! Thanks for raising this and capturing that error ID.

First, you're right to rule out your balance. The Figma agent in Figma Design is free during the open beta and doesn't consume AI credits at the moment, and when credits do run out on other AI features — it's a hard stop with an in-product message. For more detail, and for when that changes at general availability:

On the screenshot work specifically, there could be a number of factors that play. I wanted to highlight two things from the Attach files to a prompt in the Figma agent and Figma Make article that may get you further today:

  • If those numbers exist anywhere as text, try attaching them as a .csv or .txt file instead of the screenshot and see whether the values come through more accurately.
  • You can also try saying explicitly in your prompt whether you want an exact 1:1 transfer of the values, or the image used as style reference.

All that said, I want to cover the "this worked repeatedly a couple of weeks ago and doesn't now" part of your report, so a few questions to help us narrow things down:

  1. Roughly what date did it last work as expected, and when did you first notice the drop?
  2. Is it happening in every file, or only in a specific one?
  3. Are you prompting from the on-canvas prompt box, or from the Agents sidebar in the left nav? These are two different entry points, so it's useful to know which one you're using.
  4. How is the screenshot getting to the agent — Add context → Add images and files, dragged into the prompt box, or already placed on the canvas?
  5. Does this happen in the browser version, the Figma Desktop App, or both? If it's the app, is there a pending update?
  6. Anything else you can share about the exact prompt you're using would help.

If the questions above don't surface the cause, the next step is having someone look at the actual file. You can do that through the Support Hub → type “Report a bug”Start a chat, and include your impacted file by sharing it with support-share@figma.com with view access. This allows us to reproduce and investigate the issue.

Please keep me posted either way — I'd like to know whether any of the above moves the needle.

Hi!

  1. Everything was okay until at least September 4th. I noticed a significant drop on September 15th, when I returned to work.

  2. I tried doing some simple tasks in another file in the same folder. The result was the same.

  3. I'm prompting from the Agents sidebar in the left nav.

  4. Regarding screenshots, I just add them to the canvas, select a screenshot, select an element that should copy the screenshot's content, and ask something like: "Reorganize the table's contents to match the screenshot so that the layout, all numbers, labels, and the number of columns correspond to the screenshot. Leave the table's style as it is."

  5. It happens in the app (it's updated), even after I reset and restarted the Figma app through the Help tab. I'm trying to do the same task in the browser right now. It hasn't shown me any error yet, but it's been processing the prompt for 30 minutes already (still in the Analyzing stage) without any changes, so that doesn't seem right either.

  6. It doesn't work properly even with a simple task that doesn't include screenshots. Yesterday, I was creating a table. I created a first cell in the row with one date and a last cell with another date. Then I asked the agent to create the missing cells between those two date cells. It processed my request for about 5 minutes and then showed me an error (I didn't save this one).

For some reason, it doesn't want to edit the contents of the slots. It feels like its freedom has been severely restricted, since it even refused to adjust the padding in the instance cells, saying: 'Sorry, I cannot modify the size, rotation, alignment, position, or constraints of sub-layers inside a component instance. To make this change, you'd need to edit the original component directly.'

Thank you for taking the time to test this further and for being so thorough with the answers, @Daria V — sorry that it's still getting stuck.

It’s helpful to know that this is not limited to screenshots, since the date-cell task failed too, and a prompt sitting in analyzing for 30 minutes without erroring isn't expected either.

I want to make sure we zero in on the root cause, so I've opened a case on your behalf with our Technical Quality team. Please check your inbox for a message from me under case 2136216 — it has next steps on sharing file access securely, which is what will give the team the visibility they need to reproduce this.

Thanks again for reporting this, and for sticking with us while we follow up. 🙏🏻
