I teach at a higher education institution and have upgraded my educational plan and have understood that I have access to 3,000 AI credits/month. But I do not have the AI icon on the toolbar.

What can I do

Hey @Henriette, thanks for reaching out!

First, could you check whether you’re able to access the AI tools through the Actions menu in the Figma Design toolbar?

A couple of other things to keep in mind:

  • If an admin has disabled Figma AI for your team or organization, the AI features will not be available.
  • AI feature availability on Education plans depends on the account type.

For Education plans:

  • AI tools are available for higher education and bootcamp users.
  • AI tools are not available for K-12 Education users.
  • Figma Make is also only available for higher education and bootcamp users.

You can find more information here:

If everything looks correct on your end and you still don’t see the AI tools, I’d recommend reaching out to the Education team directly at education@figma.com so they can take a closer look at your account setup.

Thank you,

Gayani

I’d check that you’re in a file type that supports AI and that the feature is turned on in settings. A quick browser refresh or logging out and back in often makes the icon appear.

and you should see the AI icon only in files where AI features are allowed, so I’d try opening a brand‑new design file or checking if your admin settings limit AI tools. I once spent ages looking for it only to realize the file was set to view‑only. While helping a colleague with this, I was also doing some Q&A platform link building on the side, so the reminder to double‑check permissions stuck with me.
