Hi Figma Support,

I'm experiencing repeated crashes when trying to edit color variables in one of my design files. Every time I attempt to modify a color variable (even a small change like selecting a different swatch), Figma immediately crashes with a "Something went wrong" message. This happens consistently, both in the desktop app and in the browser version.

Some details:

  • The issue occurs only in a specific file.

  • The crash is triggered specifically when editing color variables.

  • I've tried duplicating the file, clearing cache, restarting, and switching browsers – the issue persists.

  • Version history doesn't seem to help, and there are no obvious plugin conflicts.

Can you please help me identify what might be causing this and how to resolve it? I’d be happy to provide access to the file if needed.

This looks like a high usage of CPU. Try this out:

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the detailed report — really helpful context!

Since the issue is happening consistently in one specific file and across both the desktop and browser versions, it’s likely something within that file is triggering the crash. I’d recommend trying to check your CPU as @giliard ‘s mentioned, then force-quit and restart Figma in the browser/the desktop app, and then check if the file loads.

If the issue still persists, please reach out to our support team so they can take a closer look here: Submit a bug report
When submitting the report, please include:

  • A link to the affected file, with edit access granted to support-share@figma.com (this won’t impact your billing or seat count).

  • A short screen recording showing the steps that lead to the crash — ideally with the full Figma window visible, including layers and properties panels.

  • Use your email associated with your Figma account when you fill out the form, and include any additional context you’ve shared here.

Thanks again for flagging this, and sorry for the trouble!
