Hello Figma community! 👋

I’d love to share a concept I recently explored: combining Google Earth with Figma to create visually rich, interactive design experiences. This idea may be particularly inspiring for UX/UI designers and those working with maps or spatial data.

🌍 1. Why Google Earth?

  • Google Earth offers high-resolution satellite imagery and 3D maps.

  • Ideal for showcasing geographic context, zooming into specific locations, or illustrating global-to-local transitions.

🔧 2. How Can You Use It in Figma?

  • Static Map Embeds: Export still images from Google Earth and import them into your Figma frames.

  • Interactive Sliders: Use tools like Smart Animate to simulate map transitions (e.g., satellite view to street view).

  • Scroll & Zoom Prototypes: Create multiple artboards for different zoom levels and connect them with scroll/zoom-like transitions in Prototype mode.

📌 3. Compliance with Figma Forum Guidelines

  1. Content must be relevant and valuable – this post focuses on applying Google Earth within Figma workflows (Figma Community Guidelines).

  2. Respect copyrights and sources – all satellite images should credit Google Earth and not be redistributed commercially.

  3. No spam or self-promotion – this is an idea-sharing post, not for marketing or external services.

  4. Clear titles and structured content – the topic title reflects the idea clearly and the post follows a logical, easy-to-read format.

💡 4. Advanced Ideas to Explore

  • Use Google Earth Engine for GIS data visualization and integrate that into Figma.

  • Build an interactive storytelling experience for travel, climate, or urban planning apps.

  • Combine with plugins like Map Maker or Map Pies in Figma to boost map design quality.

Conclusion:
Incorporating Google Earth into Figma designs offers a unique visual approach that enhances context and supports spatial storytelling. I’d love to hear your thoughts, tips, or other ways you’ve experimented with similar ideas.
