Figma removed window.figma from all pages in view-only mode on March 19, 2024.

Shortly after, I shared a community post here, as well as on Hacker News and Twitter, which drew some attention. Figma responded both here and on Twitter, stating that the removal was unintentional and that they planned to restore the API “in the coming weeks.” Two weeks later, they revised the timeline, saying the fix would be rolled out “in the next few months.”

But it’s now been 14 months, and window.figma is still unavailable. Figma has stopped responding to any follow-ups.

As a Figma user, I find this level of disregard unacceptable. You made a clear public promise to the community, then quietly abandoned it. It’s hard not to suspect that the original response was just a stalling tactic to defuse backlash and buy time.

Figma's new slogan: "Please Stop Lying" was accidentally saved as a comment layer and hidden from the public release.
