Where does Figma (desktop) export the file?

I clicked export…

and what? where can I find the resulting file?

Hi Ivan, Thanks for reaching out!

When you click the export button on the right panel, a modal window will appear, allowing you to choose the destination for the exported file. So, you are able to select where you want to save the exported file.

You can see what it looks like from 5:43 in the Figma Tutorial: Importing & Exporting

For more details on exporting from Figma, you can check here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040028114-Export-from-Figma

Hope it helps! Please let me know if I’m missing any additional points. I want to make sure I am fully addressing your questions.

Thanks!

Ah, the classic case of “I clicked export, now where did the file go?” – happens to the best of us! When you use Figma on your desktop and hit the export button, Figma typically saves the file in a default location, unless you’ve specified otherwise.

Here’s the usual drill:

  1. Default Download Folder: Most of the time, Figma exports files to your computer’s default download folder. This is often a folder simply named “Downloads” on your computer.

  2. Check Your Browser Downloads: If you’re using Figma in a web browser, the file might be in the browser’s download history. You can usually access this by clicking on the download icon (often looks like an arrow pointing downward) near the top right corner of your browser.

  3. Specified Folder: If you recall setting a specific folder for downloads in Figma or your browser, that’s your next stop. Sometimes we set a folder for work-related downloads and then completely forget about it!

  4. Export Again for Clarity: If the above steps feel like finding a needle in a haystack, you can always export the file again. This time, pay close attention to any prompts or dialog boxes that pop up – they usually hint at where the file is being saved.

  5. Search by File Name: If you remember the file name, use your computer’s search function to locate it. Just type in the name of the file, and it should pop up if it’s somewhere on your computer.

  6. Check Your Desktop: Sometimes, files get exported right to the desktop. Give it a quick glance – you might just spot your exported file hanging out there!

And remember, technology can be quirky sometimes. It’s like it has a mind of its own! But don’t let it beat you; with a bit of digital detective work, you’ll find that file in no time. Happy hunting! 🕵️‍♂️💻
