What is the purpose of variable in appearance property

This is a really useful function. You can assign variables (and modes) to your element / frame and use them to control / toggle features. I use it to control the display size and colour mode of my designs, so I only design things once, not at three different sizes, or colour modes.I rely on variables to control the size (and layout), and colour of all components used in that frame.
