Question

Updates in Design System not updating in other files

I am pushing updates from my design system and when updating the instances in external files I am not seeing changes. For context, I had some cards with an outline in my design system, I have now removed these outlines and updated various times in the other file and still I am not seeing the outlines disappear.

I have even tried the ‘repair component connections’ command I have seen in other posts and that has not worked, even though it said it repaired various connections. After pushing another update after this was done the outlines are still on the cards. What is the point in the design system if I can’t make changes at the source? Now I have to remove the outlines from each individual card in my other file, this is very frustrating.

Came here to say I’m having an issue with components updating from my main library to one of my connected files too. The only thing that seems to work is to close and re-open Figma every time I make an update, which is quite time consuming and frustrating. I’ve tried workarounds, and refreshing the page. @Celine_ Do you have a timeline for when this issue will be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi there!
For UD ved Christian’s case, it looks like the issue is caused by pending library updates. To keep all instances in sync, make sure to accept any pending changes under Updates each time something is published (whether assets were added, removed, or modified). Once those updates are accepted, your file and its instances should stay aligned.
As a reminder, you’ll see a blue dot on the library notification whenever there are changes waiting to be accepted. Accepting them will update all affected instances across the entire file, not just a single page.

@Chrissy Pipetti, could you also check for pending updates on your side? If this doesn’t resolve the issue, your case may be different. In that situation, I’d recommend submitting a bug report so the team can take a closer look. You can follow the steps to submit a bug report here:
https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041468234-What-to-share-in-a-bug-report-to-Figma-Support , or within Figma by selecting the question mark icon in the bottom-right corner of any page and selecting Contact support. Thank you

HOW is it possible to have such a bug like this in Figma? I’ve to update A LOT of pages and the update is not working. I can’t waste my time in this way.

Same issue. I have to drag a new instance from my Design System library assets to see the updated version. Anything that was previously placed doesn’t update.

Similar isuees. No tip from this thread is working. i have updated my master component in my components library. When i copy paste an instance from the components library it wants to update it to the old version of that component. The link “Go to Main Component” brings me to the correct file to the correct component. but no updates of the component is applied to the certain working doc.

As a note, variable change in terms of colors and such are working.

Same here.
My Button in my DS is not receiving update since 22 days.
When I copy and paste directly a child from my DS, it tells me to update the component and it get the old properties…
Also, a lot of update, despite I have done all of them, are still there, doing nothing when i click update.

Hi there! Thanks for flagging this, and I’m sorry to hear you’re still running into issues.

Since the workarounds haven’t helped and we haven’t been able to reproduce this on our side, could you reach out directly to the support team? We’d love to take a closer look at your specific case and help get to the bottom of it.

To submit a bug report:

  1. Open our Support Hub
  2. In the search bar, enter “report a bug”
  3. Click “Start a chat”
  4. Press “Enter”
  5. Respond to the next question with “Yes”
  6. Submit the bug report

Thank you 🙏🏼

One thing I have noticed is that if you library component has broken / unused properties (e.g. visibity), the instances will not update. Properties can break if you replace some content in the component. Check the the main component and if you see a property with exclamation mark, fix the issue and try to publish the changes again.

Possible Solution.

I tried all the support steps and no changes.

What did change for me was completely removing all Collection/Mode selections from the page and reapplying them. Hope this helps someone!
