Question

unstaring files

Bug: Unable to unstar files using any available method

  • The "Unstar all" button in the sidebar throws an irrelevant error saying "You don't have permission to view this file", even though I can open the file without any issues.
  • Right-clicking the file and selecting "Remove from sidebar" doesn't work.
  • On the Home page, hovering over the file thumbnail and clicking the yellow star to unstar it also doesn't work.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there a known workaround or fix?

Hey hey @Zarmeen Jabbar 👋 Thanks for the info.

The most helpful thing would be a short screen recording of the issue. If you can grab one clip that covers the following, we'll learn a lot fast:

    • The "Unstar all" attempt(s). If you want to level this up, you can do it with your browser/desktop console open (so we can see the actual error behind the toast), but not required at this point.
    • Starring and then unstarring a freshly duplicated file — right-click any file → Duplicate, star the copy, then try to unstar it. This tells us whether the problem follows one specific file or affects everything

And a couple of quick questions:

    • Are you on the desktop app or in a browser, and which OS? If desktop, is more than one Figma account signed in?
    • Is it every starred file, or does the "Unstar all" error mention one file in particular?
    • If you open the failing file's Share dialog, what access level does it show for you (Owner / can edit / can view)? Feel free to blur out any collaborator names or the file thumbnail in your screenshot.

    Thanks 🙏 — Jaycee
