Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with image fills in Figma — whenever I try to switch the Fill mode from “Fill” to “Crop”, it doesn’t work. The dropdown lets me click “Crop,” but it immediately switches back to “Fill,” and no crop handles appear on the canvas.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Selected a regular rectangle and applied an image fill.

  • Attempted to switch the Fill mode to “Crop” (doesn’t stick).

  • Made sure I’m not inside a component instance or group.

  • Checked for multiple fills — only one is applied.

  • Tried in both the browser and the desktop app.

  • Refreshed the browser and restarted Figma.

  • Tried with a brand new file — same issue.

This used to work fine before, so I’m not sure if it’s a bug, a corrupted setting, or something I’m missing.

Has anyone faced this before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Hey @MeNnA Adel, thanks for reaching out!

I just tested this in the desktop app and the browser, and I’ve managed to switch from Fill to Crop, as expected. Are you still having issues?

If so, is this happening in the desktop app, browser, or both? What OS are you using?

Lastly, are you able to share a link to your file, so we can have our team take a closer look? If you can share a link within this thread, please also grant edit access to support-share@figma.com.

If your file is private, you can also send it over to our technical quality team directly: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Be sure to use your Figma email address as well as give support-share@figma.com edit access as I mentioned above.

Hi djv,

Thank you for your reply.

Apologies, I forgot to mention that the issue is only happening in Figma Sites. Figma itself is working fine for me.

Additionally, I noticed another issue specifically with Figma Sites — when I set the fill option to 'Video' and upload a video, it doesn't play in preview mode. Instead, it just appears as a static image.

Hey @MeNnA Adel, thanks for the additional context!

Can you share your Sites file with the team here? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Again, be sure to use your Figma email address as well as give support-share@figma.com edit access.

To address your video issue, please note that Figma Sites doesn’t support native video uploads yet. While you can upload a video as a fill, it will not playback in the Preview view. And if you attempt to publish, you will see an error indicating that your file contains an unsupported fill.

For now, to add a video, we recommend using a YouTube embed, or the generic URL or HTML embed if your video is hosted on a different platform.
