Unable to Save Image

FredB2

Hello!

I just tried the FREE version today, and spent over 30 minutes with Chat Support to no avail, with trying to help me figure out why I’m unable to save my image. The only options were Make, Web Page, or HTML. Finally ended submitting a Bug Report, after she asked me to upload an image that was already uploaded. I’m a content creator, and most recently built a website, and plan to build more, but I cannot afford to have my time wasted. I was considering upgrading, if I liked it, but so far, I’m not impressed.

Second post, per Chat Support’s suggestion:

  • I’m unable to save my image from this Make file: https://www.figma.com/make/C5hSgeO0BKDwsOn7RlEa77/Branded-Animated-Banner?p=f&t=ugpEgyfRgfVJWO9j-0
  • The banner is visible, but the right sidebar does not appear and I only see Publish and Share.
  • Export appeared briefly earlier, then disappeared again, and my only save options have been Make, web page, or HTML.
  • Chat Support has been nothing but a complete waste of time, as I spent over an hour on both chat session to no avail.

[Moderator note: This post was merged from "Second Request" into "Unable to Save Image" on 4-May-2026.]

Hi @FredB2, Celyn from Figma Community Support here.

Thanks for taking the time to share all of this. I can see how frustrating this has been and I’m here to help.

Just a quick heads up that I’ve merged your other post into this thread so we can keep everything in one place.

From what you’re describing, it looks like you’re working inside a Figma Make file, which behaves a bit differently from a standard Design file. At the moment, exporting images (PNG/JPG) isn’t available directly from Make - however, you could do so by bringing your design into a Figma Design file first, then export from there:

  1. In your Figma Make file, click the “Copy design” icon next to your profile picture (top-right corner).

  1. Open a new Figma Design file: https://www.figma.com/design/new
  2. Paste your design onto the canvas - Cmd + V (Mac) / Ctrl + V (Windows)
  3. In the right panel, scroll to the bottom and click the “+” next to Export
  4. Choose your desired format (e.g. PNG or JPG), then click Export

That should download the image to your computer.

I also see you’ve reached out to us on Ticket #1882213 - thanks for doing that.

If you’re still running into issues after trying the steps above, feel free to continue the conversation there so the team can take a closer look with your file.

Appreciate your patience here and hope this helps in the meanwhile 🙏

There’s no ‘copy’ option when I click on it. 😮

I was just chatting with someone apparently from the Design team, and I’m unfortunately out of AI credits. I just want to save this as a GIF of MP4 file. Why does this have to be so complicated?

I’m a content creator, and I cannot be wasting anymore time on this. I really like the design, and I just need to save it -- that’s all!

Saving it as a web page/html won’t work, as it was blank when I tried opening it.

Hi @FredB2, thanks for following up. I appreciate you sharing a bit more about what you’re trying to do.

Just to clarify, in Figma Make, exports are currently available as .make files. That’s why you’re not seeing options like GIF or MP4 directly from there.

As mentioned above, you can copy the Make preview as a design layer and paste it into a Figma Design file. From there, you’ll be able to export it in formats like PNG, JPG, SVG, or PDF. At the moment, GIF or MP4 export isn’t supported.

Hope that helps clarify things a bit, really appreciate you taking the time to share your workflow here.
