Hi everyone,

As deadline for re-verifying our Education status (29 September) is coming up, I’m very worried our team may not complete it in time, which could impact ongoing design projects.

 

Our issue: VUS (Vietnam-USA Society English Centers) does not appear in the Vietnam academic institutions list during the SheerID verification step. Because of this, we cannot proceed with re-verification for Figma Education.

 

I submitted a support ticket to SheerID last week asking to have VUS added to the schools list. However, the response I received did not resolve the issue (screenshot attached).

Has anyone faced a similar problem, or does anyone know the best way to resolve this quickly? Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated!

hi ​@Hung Ho -- happy to try and help as much as I can. First, I’m interpreting their message to you differently. I don’t think it’s necessarily that your school isn’t recognized as a valid institution, but more-so that they cannot verify you individually as a student/educator that attends that institution.

Have you (and your team members) tried creating a new ticket with SheerID that contains the information they requested at the end of their message? They requested a screenshot of your school’s student portal (that shows the school’s website) that includes your full name, school name, and current/valid date within the academic year.

This information is needed in order for them to move forward with the verification process. 

I know this may not be an ideal answer, but I can’t manually verify your education status on my end. SheerID must be the one to do so, as they are the ones who manage the requests. Please contact them again and provide the information they requested, and with any additional questions moving forward.

Even thoug it identified our institution, it is old name. We renamed 5 years ago,

When we tried to verify our school did not appear in selection for school even though some other schools from same country do appear in selection.

So our school should not be AFAIK exempt then. 

Would suggest at least prolong reregistration period, until stuff like this is resolved so it would not disrupt, learning process.

How im even supposed to start verification with them (sheer ID). They have worst ux i have experienced to date. Website is just joke, no search bar, u have to pick “deal” to start verifcation, instead to register right away. I can’t even find Figma there in alphabetical list. Am I stupid?


Hi ​@Juraj.E - I will check with our education team re: the name of your University to see if it can be reviewed and corrected. Can you confirm what the new name is? Is it supposed to be Škola umeleckého priemyslu (Trenčín)? Please correct me if that is not correct.

What does this mean?

  • You will not lose access to your account or files on September 29.
  • To keep your access uninterrupted, please complete your reverification as soon as you’re able.

It’s quite surprising and disheartening to hear that Figma extended a grace period for users in the process of re-verifying their Education status, yet in our case we received no notice of such an extension at all ☹️

As a result, we had to temporarily purchase some full-seat licenses for our educators and designers to avoid interruptions to our ongoing projects - something we had hoped the Education plan would continue to support.

We are still awaiting a concrete response from the Figma Education team specific to our case. Given the urgency of our deadlines and the disruption this situation has caused, we kindly ask for clearer communication and a practical resolution, rather than leaving institutions like ours in uncertainty.

Hi ​@Hung Ho - I see where you’re coming from, and I apologize for how this played out. Based on your message, I believe you fell into a period of time before our grace period, and you wanted to ensure your continued access. I have asked our education team to reopen and review your case specifically.

This is now in action. I can’t guarantee the exact time, but rest assured that someone will be touching base via email again.
