Student Plan Eligibility for Existing Account

Hi Figma Support,

I hope you're doing well.

I will be starting my Master's degree later this month, and I was wondering if it is possible to convert my existing Figma account to a Student account instead of creating a new one.

I'd like to keep my current account, as it already contains my files and projects. If this is possible, could you please let me know the steps required? I'm happy to provide my student ID, admission letter, or any other documents needed to verify my student status.

    Congratulations on starting your Master's degree! 🎉

    Yes, you can absolutely keep your existing Figma account and apply for Figma for Education. To convert your account to an Education account, you'll need to first verify your education status. Here's how you can do it:

    1. If your Figma account is currently using a personal email address, update the email to your school-issued email address. Your Education status will be tied to this verified email address.

    2. Once your school email is set up:

      • Visit https://www.figma.com/education/apply
      • Select "Higher Ed" as your institution type
      • Agree to the terms of service
      • Click "Submit"
      • Complete the SheerID verification form with your school and personal details

    Once your Education status is approved, you can create or upgrade a team to the Education plan and access Figma's Professional features at no cost for one year. If you're still a student at the end of that period, you can reapply to renew your Education status.

    I really appreciate your help. Once I receive my university email address, I'll update my Figma account and proceed with the Education verification through SheerID as you outlined.
