I commute by train and worth in the Figma app en route. The wifi is slow and patchy, so I make sure I open the file I want to work on beforehand while I have a good connection.

My issue is that while on the train, Figma sometimes enters a loading state - presumably to autosave - but then hangs in that state indefinitely, even if the wifi is working. So I'm then unable to work until I get off the train.

I'm guessing this is because the internet connection is slow, but if so shouldn't it time out and let me carry on editing the file offline?

If I close and try to reopen the file, it just hangs again.

Any advice on how to avoid this scenario is much appreciated - it's causing me a lot of lost time!

Hi @Dan_Littler ,

I understand that you’re getting stuck on a loading screen when your network connection is unstable.

Could you share a few more details with us? For example:

  • While you were on the train, did you switch pages in the file?

  • If so, had those pages already been loaded while you were on a stable connection?

If not, we’d recommend loading all the pages you might need in the file beforehand, while you still have a good internet connection.

Just so you know, only the current page and any other pages you’ve already loaded will be available while you’re offline. You can find more details here: What can I do offline in Figma?

While we wait for further input from other experienced community members, if the issue continues after checking the steps above, I recommend submitting a report through this secure form: Submit a request, so our team can take a closer look.

Thanks,

Figma relies heavily on an active internet connection, so when the Wi-Fi is slow or unstable, it can hang during autosave instead of allowing offline edits. To avoid this, make sure the file is fully loaded before your commute, use the Figma desktop app for better offline handling, and work on smaller files or sections to reduce loading issues. Figma doesn’t fully allow offline editing, so major changes should be done when you have a stable connection, while minor edits or review can be done after the file is fully cached.
